The Mid-State Amateur Radio ClubFranklin, Indiana"Serving Central Indiana Communities for Twenty-Six Years" Friday, December 23, 2005MARC tax-exempt status is coming! The club received a Christmas present from the IRS this week. I've been notified that the MARC application for 501(c)3 recognition is going to be approved. We can expect to receive our official letter of determination of status in a week to ten days. The initial paperwork went in during October of 2004; the IRS saw a few warning flags in the paperwork financials and suggested last March that we re-file as 501(c)4, which I did; and we didn't see anything more happen. Meanwhile the agent in charge monitored our website and newsletter, and has concluded that we're definitely doing public service work, that the warning flags are not as ominous as his first reading led him to suspect, we're keeping our act clean, and so... approval as a (c)3. Tell all your philanthropic friends and generous potential corporate sponsors that (Real Soon Now) donations to Mid State Amateur Radio Club, Inc. will be tax-deductible. More details to come; I suppose I'd better start writing the article for the January newsletter before it gets lost in the holiday scrum. 73, KB9SKI Posted 7:30 PM by Ernest C Wednesday, December 21, 2005Eyewitness to a city under seige![]() James Smith-K9APR talked about his trip to New Orleans with the Henry County Sheriff. "I never imagined having to wear a flak vest in one of America's great cities to feel safe." James set up and maintained the Henry county radio repeater while in the Big EZ. Posted 3:56 PM by Jack Thursday, December 15, 2005Another health update regarding MARC members KC9EBL and N9QBOBrenda, KC9EBL is recovering from knee replacement at Methodist. She will be moving to rehab for several days before returning home. The address of the rehab center will be posted as soon as available. Vern, N9QBO, is recovering at St. Francis, Beech Grove, after severe complications occured after his earlier surgery. He's alert but weak, and has a long recovery in front of him. A call would certainly boost the spirits of both Vern and Brenda, and it would only take a couple of minutes to let'em know MARC members are there Posted 10:08 PM by Jerry Tuesday, December 13, 2005W9RTH, SK![]() Adah M. Elliott, W9RTH, has passed away. She was a resident of the Masonic Home in Franklin, and was a familiar voice to most of us. She was ninety-nine years old. Until very recently, she had been a frequent check-in to the National Traffic System nets on eighty meters, and had remained active on other HF bands, due in part to the hard work of Chuck Moser, KB9TEO and Jerry Schantz, W9JJS. Chuck and Jerry were instrumental in ensuring that Amateur Radio Station W9RTH was able to broadcast from the Masonic Home. We'll miss hearing your voice on the air, Adah! Note: Thanks to Bonnie, W9BXP for the photo on the right. Also, Bonnie scanned Adah's obit, and it can be viewed here.
